June is almost here, which means it’s about time to celebrate Juneteenth! There are plenty of family-friendly activities in the Tampa Bay area to help you honor Black culture and Black history. I’ve created a list of exciting Juneteenth events happening in the Tampa Bay area. Keep reading to learn about events that offer a variety of activities to enjoy with the entire family. IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT JUNETEENTH

  • Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.
  • Emancipation Park is a 10-acre land bought for $800 in 1872 by 4 former slaves to celebrate Juneteenth.
  • Juneteenth became a US federal holiday in 2021.
  • Opal Lee is known as the “grandmother” of Juneteenth.
  • Ben Haith designed the original Juneteenth flag in 1997.
  • Red is an important color in Juneteenth celebrations.

R.O.C. the Block Juneteenth Festival

Families will experience live music, performances, and entertainment as well as food and retail vendors. There will be a video game truck, petting zoo, basketball court and more! A dazzling fireworks show will end the day’s celebrations with a bang!

Juneteenth Street Festival

Enjoy fun activities designed for all ages. Engage in games, interactive exhibits, live performances and creative workshops that celebrate the rich heritage and resilience of the African American community.

Tampa Museum of Art Juneteenth Cultural Celebration 

Prepare for a lively community celebration of Juneteenth, with art-making activities, live music and performances, family portraits, local vendors, and more!

Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony and Festival

Join Tampa Mayor, Jane Castor, and community members in raising the Juneteenth flag during this exciting celebration with entertainment, FREE food and various vendors. (Free food while supplies last).

Tampa Police Department & the Black History Committee Juneteenth Summer Block Party

Celebrate Juneteenth alongside the Tampa Police Department and the Black History Committe. There will be food trucks, games, prizes and more.

Juneteenth Pints of Science and Vendor Fair

Enoch Davis Center Annual Juneteenth Celebration

This is a celebration for the whole family. The event will include delicious food, music, poetry, dancing, activities for all ages, giveaways and community resources.

WBTT Juneteenth Arts Festival

Vendors will be present and live performances will be going on throughout the day, including a dance presentation by Monessa Salley from Sarasota Contemporary Dance and musical numbers by WBTT’s Stage of Discovery students. A free performance of WBTT’s summer production, “Coconut Cake,” will round out the festival experience.

Freedom Fest

This will be a fun celebration for the entire family. Bring your lawn chairs and good vibes! There will be live music, raffles, giveaways and more!

Sankofa Juneteenth Freedom Festival

This is a Juneteenth celebration for the entire family. There will be lots of vendors, food trucks, music & entertainment.

USF Black Alumni Society Juneteenth Celebration

This is a celebration of culture and community that is fun for the whole family. The event will include delicious food vendors, jazz music, dancers, and several panels.

Juneteenth Music Festival

The live outdoor concert will feature headliner Shawn Brown as well as the Beat Down Band. You will also be entertained by Siobhan Monique and Nathan Mitchell. There will be a special Kids Corner with several activities for children of all ages, including a playground, face painting, a hockey shooting rink hosted by our very own Tampa Bay Lightning, and appearances by superhero characters like Marvel Entertainment’s Black Panther and Captain America!

This will be a Juneteenth Gospel Fest featuring some of the Tampa Bay’s most talented soul-soothing gospel singers and some of the region’s best soul food.

City of Dunedin Juneteenth Celebration

Experience live music and performances, craft and food vendors, and more. You will be honoring this holiday as a day of recognition, restoration, and celebration.
